He credited his initial interest in learning guitar to the video game Guitar Hero.

Post Malone Career
Post Malone, who adopted his stage name “Post Malone” at age 14 or 15 from a rap name generator, created his first mixtape, “Young and After Them Riches”, at 16 using Audacity and shared it with his high school classmates. Voted “Most Likely to Become Famous” by his peers, he worked at a Chicken Express as a teenager.
At 17, he released a parody synth-pop ballad called “Why Don’t You Love Me” under the alias Leon DeChino for a school project. This song resurfaced online in 2016, and Post Malone later referenced the DeChino alias in his song “Psycho”.
After briefly attending Tarrant County College and then dropping out, Post Malone moved to Los Angeles with his friend Jason Probst, a professional game streamer. In LA, Post Malone and several others formed the music group BLCKVRD and recorded music together. During this time, he met record producers FKi 1st and Sauce Lord Rich, who produced several of his tracks, including “White Iverson,” which he recorded two days after writing it. Released on SoundCloud in February 2015, the song received praise from artists like Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa, though it was mocked by Earl Sweatshirt.
After the music video for “White Iverson” hit one million views within a month, Post Malone attracted attention from record labels and signed with Republic Records in August 2015. He worked with various prominent rappers and performed at Kylie Jenner’s 18th birthday party, where he met Kanye West. This led to a collaboration on West’s song “Fade.” Post Malone then opened for Justin Bieber on his Purpose World Tour (2016–17) and premiered his single “Go Flex” on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show on April 20, 2016.
His first full-length project, a mixtape titled “August 26th”, was released on May 12, 2016. He made his national TV debut on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on June 9, 2016, performing “Go Flex.”
Despite claims that he was shifting away from hip hop, Malone affirmed his dedication to the genre. His debut album, “Stoney”, released on December 9, 2016, featured the hit single “Congratulations” and was later certified double platinum by the RIAA.
