Patience Umo Eno Biography – Patience Umo Eno, the wife of Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno, has passed away. She died in a hospital following an illness that was not disclosed, as confirmed by Ini Emembong, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Akwa Ibom.
Her sudden death on Friday sent shockwaves through the community, as many found it hard to believe. She had celebrated her 57th birthday in February. Just last month, Patience Umo Eno had organized the fifth edition of the ARISE Initiative for the Elderly at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Uyo, hosting 600 senior citizens from all 31 Local Government Areas, offering them stipends of N50,000 and free medical care.
Her passing brings to mind the famous words of William Shakespeare, who likened life to a stage where everyone plays their part before exiting. Known affectionately as “Eka Iberedem Akwa Ibom,” or “Mother and Strong Pillar of Akwa Ibom,” she was seen as a beacon of hope and a figure of selfless love.
Patience Umo Eno hailed from Ikot Akpa Ekop in Ikpa Ibom, one of the largest clans in Mkpat Enin. This oil-rich, agrarian community is notable for being the site where oil was first discovered in Nigeria. Her life and work touched many, earning her deep respect and admiration.
She was born and raised in Akwa Ibom in a close-knit community that valued support for one another. Patience Umo Eno was a mother of six and grandmother to nine. She had been married for over 37 years.
Through her foundation, Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), she was dedicated to humanitarian work, providing shelter, food, education, and other assistance to the less fortunate. Additionally, she played a significant role in helping her husband manage their business, Royalty Hotel, a conglomerate that includes apartments, catering services, and coffee shops.
