Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Early Life And Education
Isiaka started his schooling at Enugu Christ Church School but moved to Ibadan with his family. He completed his secondary education at Ogbomosho Grammar School and obtained his West African School Certificate in 1972. He later obtained a Bachelors degree in Political Science from Jacksonville State University in the United States, graduating in 1983. Furthermore, he then, in 1985, he received his Master’s in Public Administration from the same institution.

Before taking up his position as a senator in Nigeria, he held positions as President of the Chamber of Commerce of Nigeria and Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Nigeria.
Additionally, he served as a director of the Pacific Commercial Bank and as a director of Tadel Investment Limited. During the Third Republic of Nigeria, Adeleke competed in the formation of the newly formed Osun State, carved out of the old Oyo State.
Although he was a member of the Social Democratic Party, the largest party in the country, he was not initially considered a vanguard. Despite finishing second in the hotly contested primary election, he managed to defeat the primary candidate, lawyer Oladipo Oladosu. He then became the first civilian governor of Osun State in 1992.
During his tenure as governor, he accomplished important things, including the establishment of a polytechnic in Iree, a technical college in Esa-Oke, and the completion of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation.
In 2007, Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke qualified for the Osun West Senatorial District seat under the rule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite an unsuccessful re-election bid in 2011, he won again in 2015, this time under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and emerged victorious. The 62-year-old died on Sunday morning in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, shortly after participating in a political rally that ended on Saturday evening. Until his death, Mr. Adeleke was appointed chairman of the Senate committee on capital markets.
He served in the Senate twice, initially representing Osun West from 2007 to 2011 under the Peoples Democratic Party. He lost his re-election bid in 2011, but later joined the All Progressives Congress and failed in the governorship race in 2014. Backed by his new party, he won in 2015 Osun West senator election, winning a second term in the Senate.
Mr. Adeleke was the first elected governor of Osun State in 1991 under the rule of the Social Democratic Party. He wrote a bill aimed at protecting journalists and security informants. The circumstances of his death are currently unclear. His colleague Senator Shehu Sani expressed condolences and commended Adeleke’s character and service to his constituents.
