Tokunbo Wahab Early Life and Education
Tokunbo Wahab Biography – Mr. Tokunbo Philip Wahab, the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, is a distinguished and forward-thinking legal professional with a solid track record. Born on May 17, 1972, he is an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Business School, and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
He earned his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Benin in 1998 and completed his legal training at the Nigerian Law School in 1999, graduating in 2000.
His primary education took place at Army Barracks Primary School, Epe, Lagos (1978-1984), followed by secondary education at Army Children High School, Epe (1984-1989). He also obtained a National Diploma in Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), Abeokuta, in 1993.
Tokunbo Wahab Career
Mr. Tokunbo Wahab is a member of both the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the International Bar Association (IBA). He has extensive experience in several law firms, including Wali & Ace Legal Practitioners in Marina, Lagos, where he served as managing partner from January 2008 to August 2019, and Aluko and Oyebode in Lagos, where he was a Senior Associate from February 2005 to June 2009.
He also held the position of Senior Counsel and Head of Department at Paul Usoro and Co in Lagos between February 2003 and January 2005, and worked with Jiti Ogunye & Co. as an Associate from October 2000 to January 2003, focusing on litigation.
A staunch advocate for equity and justice, Mr. Wahab believes in equal opportunities for all, regardless of social status. This commitment has driven him to offer numerous pro bono legal services to the disadvantaged since his early career days.
Tokunbo Wahab Political Career
From August 2019 to May 2023, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab served as the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Education. In this role, he led the development and implementation of tertiary education policies aimed at enhancing educational quality in the state. He provided the Governor with strategic advice on educational matters, using data-driven insights and research to guide decision-making processes.
Known as TKW, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab is highly skilled in public speaking, budgeting, strategic planning, team leadership, stakeholder engagement, and time management, among other areas. He worked closely with government agencies, educational institutions, and community leaders to promote educational development and introduced innovative programs to improve teacher training and professional development, leading to higher teaching standards across the state.

Mr. Tokunbo Wahab was appointed as the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources on September 13, 2023. He is happily married with children.
