Mashata Biography
Originally from Hammanskraal, Gauteng, Mashata grew up in Mabopane, a settlement in the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, north of Pretoria in Gauteng.
The origin of the name “Mashata” was mentioned during his interview on Kaya FM in December 2022. He explained that he got the nickname because of his boisterous behavior at school and on the streets, which is similar to his gentle behavior is different at home, where he struggled to communicate out of fear of his father.
Mashata had a close relationship with the late DJ Sum body, popularly known as Oupa John Sefoka, and played a key role as MC at his funeral. DJ Sumbody, the owner of Ayepyep Lifestyle, was brutally murdered in Wood mead, Johannesburg on November 20, 2022, coinciding with his annual All White picnic. Earlier this year, DJ Vettys, another friend of DJ Sum body, was also shot and hospitalized.
Mashata Career
In 2012, he co-founded a theater company called Mashata-Tainment, which operates several comedy venues in Tshwane.
In addition, the company organizes and supervises comedy events throughout the year. It also provides emcees, live music bands, and comedians for corporate, private, and government functions.
The Mamelodi Sundowns stadium announcer, in addition to his love of music, was an avid football fan. He became the team’s home game announcer, having previously held the same position with the Orlando Pirates.
Mashata Cause of Death
Popular comedian and DJ, Peter “Mashata” Mabuse, was shot dead after performing at a show in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Mabuse, who was driving a bakkie, was ambushed by gunmen, resulting in both him and his companion being shot and wounded.
Mabuse died in the hospital from his injuries. His family was grateful for the overwhelming support and tried their best to cope with the tragedy.
Police have launched a manslaughter and murder investigation after two men, aged 46 and 45, were targeted during the shooting near the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in Soshanguve.
Suspects remain at large and police are asking anyone with information to come forward and maintain confidentiality.
