Francis Nwifuru Biography – Ebonyi State’s governor since 2023 is Francis Ogbonna Erishi Nwifuru, a Nigerian politician and attorney born on February 25, 1975. From June 2015 to May 2023, he held the position of speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
His hometown is Oferekpe Agbaja in the Ebonyi State local government area of Izzi. From 2011 until 2023, Francis Nwifuru served as the Izzi West constituency’s representative in the Ebonyi State legislature. From 2011 to 2015, he served as the 4th Ebonyi State House of Assembly’s Deputy Chief Whip.
He presided over the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Lands, Survey, Urban Development, and Environment during that time. Before switching to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020, he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he joined to enter the State House of Assembly.

Francis Nwifuru Education
In 1991, Francis Nwifuru enrolled at the Oferekpe Agbaja Community Primary School. His unwavering desire to learn led him to enroll in Community Secondary School, Nwofe Agbaja, in 1999. His educational endeavors were not without difficulty.
He really only occasionally went to school and helped his brothers tend to their father’s large herd of cattle. After completing his post-primary education, Francis Nwifuru underwent Catholic baptism and was given the name “Francis.”.
He enrolled in the building technology and woodworking programs at Ebonyi State University in Abakaliki. In June 2021, Francis Nwifuru graduated with a master’s degree in supply chain management, procurement, and logistics from Salford University in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Francis Nwifuru Career
He unsuccessfully ran for the Ebonyi State House of Assembly in 2007 in his state’s constituency. Later on, he was designated as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Ex-Officio State Executive Member for Ebonyi State. He tried again and was elected to the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, representing the Izzi West Constituency, in March 2011.
He was appointed chairman of the House Committee on Lands, Survey, Urban Development, and Environment during that same term, and he also served as deputy chief whip. In 2015, he was once again elected as the Assembly’s fifth speaker.
He was also re-elected in 2019 to the same positions, making him the only member in the history of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly to have served as Speaker twice.
He was chosen to serve as the South East Conference of State Legislatures of Nigeria’s National Vice-Chairman in 2020. In the 2023 Ebonyi gubernatorial election, Nwifuru, the All Progressives Congress flagbearer, received 199,131 votes from all 13 local governments in the state to win the race.
Francis Nwifuru Controversy
Rumors surfaced in March 2016 indicating that Francis Nwifuru had been taken into custody by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
But he refuted the accusation. Francis Nwifuru clarified that he only accepted the EFCC’s invitation to visit its South-East zonal office in Enugu.
