Born in Nasarawa Town, Ibrahim Usman Jibril hails from a lineage of leadership. His grandfather, Malan Jibril, was the eldest son of Umaru Maje Haji, the 8th Emir of Nasarawa, and a direct descendant of the Emirate’s founder, Umaru Makama Dogo. His parents, Alhaji Usman Maikwato Jibril and Hajiya Fatima Ibrahim, emphasized Koranic studies during his early education.
He attended Nasarawa Central Primary School and Government Secondary School in Nasarawa before continuing his studies at the School of Preliminary Studies in Yola, Adamawa State. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Geography from Bayero University Kano in 1983 and later obtained a Master’s degree in Land Resource and Administration from the same institution in 1990.

Professional Career
Ibrahim Usman Jibril began his professional journey as a teacher at Nasarawa Central Primary School and later served as a map-reading instructor at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery during his NYSC year. He also lectured at Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa and taught at Government Secondary School, Kuje.
In 1985, he joined the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a land officer, dedicating over 25 years to public service. He held key positions such as Deputy Director of Abuja Development Control and Director of Land Administration. Additionally, he contributed to establishing the Nasarawa State Geographic Information System (NAGIS).
Political Career
In 2015, he was appointed Minister of State for Environment under President Muhammadu Buhari. He served until 2018, focusing on environmental sustainability and policy reform.
Traditional Leadership
Ibrahim Usman Jibril ascended as the Emir of Nasarawa on December 7, 2018, following the death of Emir Hassan Ahmad II. His appointment was approved by the Nasarawa State Traditional Council of Chiefs and the state governor.
